New To Church?

“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

If you’re visiting this page, there’s a chance you’ve never attended a church service before.

Regardless of where you are in life, deciding to explore a new spiritual community can be both exciting and a little nerve-wracking, especially if you've never been to church before.

First off, we want to commend you for your curiosity and openness. Venturing into a new environment, particularly one centered around faith and community, takes courage, and we admire that about you.

If you're feeling a bit unsure or apprehensive, know that it's entirely normal. Many people have similar feelings before attending church for the first time. Just remember, everyone there was once a newcomer themselves, so you're not alone in this.

Take my yolk upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. You're Welcome as You Are: Regardless of your background, beliefs, or past experiences, you are welcome just as you are. We are a diverse group made up of people from all walks of life, and we try to provide a welcoming experience for visitors.

  2. Take It at Your Own Pace: There's no pressure to dive headfirst into everything all at once. Feel free to take things at your own pace, whether that means sitting quietly and observing, participating in the service, or engaging in conversations with others.

  3. Ask Questions: Don't hesitate to ask questions if you're curious about anything. Whether it's about our beliefs, traditions, or activities. We are more than happy to help to share these things with you.

  4. Enjoy the Experience: Above all, try to enjoy the experience. Pay attention to how you feel while you're here. Whether you find comfort, inspiration, or simply a sense of belonging, allow yourself to be present in the moment and see what resonates with you.

“For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

-Matthew 11:28-30

Ultimately, attending church for the first time is about exploring and discovering Jesus Christ and the good news he brings for all people, including you. We know you may not understand what that means, but we are excited to tell you about it and how it will change your life forever.

If you have any questions or just want to talk more about it, feel free to reach out. We’re here to support you every step of the way. And if you are thinking of visiting us this coming Sunday or in the near future, feel free to use the button below to Plan Your Visit. You are, of course, welcome to just show up; however, the page will explain why you might want to plan your visit and what to expect when attending Southwest Church of Christ.
